If you’ve never been to 147 Deli on Parnell St. you’ve been missing out. They do some of the best sandwiches in Dublin. They do specials every week and some of them are so unbelievably tasty that I’ve gone back the next day to get another. When they announced they’d started doing breakfast dishes I knew I’d be heading there at the weekend to try them out. What I like about their breakfast menu is that there are no ‘notions’ about it. It has scrambled eggs, toast with poached eggs, a full Irish, porridge and a breakfast smoothie.
The toast with poached eggs comes three ways: Avocado, rocket & smoked bacon. Flat mushrooms, pesto, watercress, gruyere and pine nuts and Mexican chipotle chicken, salsa, guacamole & hot sauce. The scrambled eggs come with a choice of toppings such as salmon with dill/chives, bacon, spinach & mushrooms and chorizo. The full Irish is well, a full Irish, no need to go into detail about that.
I ordered the avocado, rocket and smoked bacon toast on brown bread. I can’t fault this dish. The eggs were cooked perfectly (I think I’m the queen of poached eggs so if they aren’t cooked right I get real snotty), the bacon was crispy and the guacamole was plentiful.
I ordered the Mexican egg option as well. For the purpose of research of course! Not because I’m a pig (haha, that’s a lie, I am a pig).
My favourite sandwich from 147 (not including specials) is the chipotle chicken club so I knew I’d like the Mexican eggs. It could have been because I had just finished the other egg dish but this was a huge portion of food and I couldn’t possibly have finished it all. Again, eggs cooked perfectly, lashings of guacamole, and a substantial portion of chipotle chicken.
The only thing that I thought was missing from the dish was a bit of heat which would normally come in the form of the hot sauce. I was informed beforehand that they didn’t have it in stock at the moment. I’d say with the hot sauce this dish would be 10/10 and I’m looking forward to trying it again.
If it was socially acceptable and I had been still hungry I’d have ordered the third toast option (Flat mushrooms, pesto, watercress, gruyere and pine nuts) but I really couldn’t possibly have fitted anymore in. It just means I’ll have to go back again, oh well, poor me!
Breakfast is served from Monday – Friday 8.30 – 12 and on Saturdays from 10.30 – 2.30.
Would I go back to 147 Deli? Obviously!
What did I not like? That it’s not socially acceptable to have 3 breakfast dishes and that my belly wasn’t big enough to finish everything.
