I spoke about the delicious Bang Bang Shrimp I had in Bonefish Grill in this post. It was one of my favourite dishes that I had while I was in Orlando. Now I’m not 100% sure if this is an exact replica since I don’t have the original beside me to compare, but it’s the best I’ve come up with by memory.
Here’s what Bonefish Grill’s Bang Bang Shrimp looks like.

I started with the sauce. I use 1/2 cup of mayo. I use the lighter than light mayo. I honestly can’t taste the difference between that and the regular kind when it’s mixed in with other things. I added 1/3 cup of sweet chilli sauce. I use the Blue Dragon brand but you can use whatever you prefer. Next, I add 1/4 cup of Sriracha sauce. This makes it quite spicy. If you’re not a fan of spice then lower this amount. If making this for the first time and you’re wary of spice, then add maybe a tablespoon of sauce until you reach your desired level of spice. Set the sauce aside.

Onto the shrimp/prawns. Get three bowls and put cornflour in one, beaten eggs in another and your flour + spice mixture in the last.
Heat your oil in a small pan. If you have a deep fat fryer even better. Dip the prawns into the cornflour, the egg, and then the flour. Fry in the oil for 3-4 mins or until golden. Remove and put on some kitchen paper to get rid of some of the excess oil.

When all the prawns are finished then cover them in the Bang Bang sauce. Be careful when you’re mixing that you don’t remove some of the batter from the prawns.

When I had these in Bonefish Grill I remembered there being quite a lot of sauce on them but I put way too much sauce on them this time. When I make them again I’ll probably only use half the sauce and keep the rest for pretty much anything else.


Bang Bang Shrimp
Ingredients
Bang Bang Sauce
- 1/2 Cup Mayonnaise
- 1/3 Cup Sweet Chilli Sauce
- 1/4 Cup Sriracha Use less if you don't want it as spicy
Prawns
- 500 g Raw Prawns
- 100 g Flour
- 50 g Cornflour
- 2 Eggs
- 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
- Oil for fryer Vegetable, Sunflower etc
- Lettuce & Spring Onion for serving optional
Instructions

Start by making the sauce. Mix the sauce ingredients and refrigerate.

Mix the flour, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt & pepper together and set aside.

Beat the two eggs into a bowl

Heat your oil.

Dip the prawns into the cornflour, the egg and then into the flour.

Fry in oil for 3-4 mins until lightly golden. I usually fry 4 at a time.

Remove from the oil onto some kitchen paper to remove the excess oil.

When all the prawns are done cover them in the bang bang sauce.

Serve on a bed of lettuce with some chopped spring onions.
