I’ve made it a goal of mine to eat in most (I’d be poor if I said all) of the brunch places in Dublin. Last weekend it was 3FE. I’ve been to 3FE loads of times before for coffee but never had their food. The menu is small and I like that. I presume (rightly or wrongly) that if a menu is small then what they have on the menu will be executed well.
Another reason I wanted to go to 3FE was because they stock Revolution Bakery donuts and I’m on a mission to eat donuts everywhere.
So onto the food. Mr LP got pancakes. Nothing new there. That man loves his pancakes. Buttermilk pancakes, smoked bacon, mascarpone, and caramelised apple compote. The pancakes were delicious. They were everything you expect buttermilk pancakes to taste like. Light and fluffy. Strike me down but I don’t like the combination of pancakes and bacon. I must be the only one. I like my pancakes smothered in lemon/sugar or Nutella. They are a dessert for me. They were devoured anyway and I saw loads of other people ordering them and finished their plates to so that’s a good sign.
I went for the Pudding. Black pudding is the new kale isn’t it? Everyone is going on about how much of a superfood it is. I don’t really care if it’s a superfood or not, it’s deadly. Are you suppose to eat it raw or is that only the white one? Anyway when I’m at home I happily eat it raw. The dish itself was gorgeous. It was exactly what I was in the mood for. Unlike the pancakes it felt like a proper meal to me. It came with (doing this from memory because the website has an older version of this dish) sautéed potatoes, spinach, two poached eggs and I think a fennel hollandaise. The pudding was crispy and the potatoes and eggs were cooked perfectly. How do so many places get poached eggs wrong?

Anyway, I was kinda sad when I came to the end of eating it because it tasted so good. There was enough potatoes there to feed two people. Not that I shared or anything.
Next up was my donut. I got the salted caramel because well, it’s salted caramel. If I had room for more donuts I would have had got them but I was fairly stuffed after all the pudding. Raging I didn’t use my noggin and just get some to take away. Amateur. I’ve only had the one Revolution Bakery donut so I shouldn’t really form an opinion on them but I’m going to anyway. These are the 2nd best donuts in Dublin (Dublin Doughnut Co. is always going to be my number 1) and I’m looking forward to trying more of their flavours.

Would I go back to 3FE for food? Definitely.
What did I not like? A group of really annoying tourists parked themselves at a table and had no intention of moving or ordering more food or coffee. I mean dudes, come on, there was like, 3 people standing there waiting for tables. Have some manners. When the guys working there spotted this they suggested they move so there was a happy ending after all.
